Main purpose

Available models

  • RX-4 - 4 line cards, 3 switch fabrics, 2 power supplies, 2 management modules
  • RX-8 - 8 line cards, 3 switch fabrics, 4 power supplies, 2 management modules
  • RX-16 - 16 line cards, 4 switch fabrics, 8 power supplies, 2 management modules
  • RX-32 - 32 line cards, 8 switch fabrics, 16 power supplies, 2 management modules

Available line cards

All RX line cards are fully interchangeable throughout the RX series. (This does not fully hold for the switch fabrics and power supplies.)

A 4:1 overbooked 16 port 10G SFP+ line card has been announced at Interop 2008, availability Q4 2008.

Architecture

Clos fabric, VOQ, etc...

The RX series is built using ASIC chipsets from Marvell Semiconductor (Prestera EX?).

Limitations

Layer 2

  • Maximum of 8 ports in an aggregated link

Layer 3

  • 512k IPv4 routes in FIB
  • 64k IPv6 routes in FIB
  • No outbound ACLs
  • Default of 4096 next-hops, maximum of 8140
  • RFC 3056 (6to4 Relay support) is, contrary to what the Foundry website says, not supported.
